From strictly geometrical, classic diamond shapes, checks and checkerboard patterns to complex woven flower motifs: for her entire collection Nina Hollein uses linen and cotton fabrics from the Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria. This was where she spent her weekends and summers as a child. For a long time, this region north of the Danube and south of the Bohemian Forest used to be at the center of a flourishing weaving industry. However, whereas in the past traditional Mühlviertel linen was used mainly for bed linen and table linen, cloths for agricultural and industrial use, bread cloths and tea towels, tarpaulins and tents, Nina Hollein has now completely reinterpreted these rustic, industrial-quality fabrics. From her lovingly assembled treasure trove of fabrics with original weaving patterns that are still being manufactured today in isolated cases in the old weaving mills she has created a modern, unusual collection – with clothes that are robust, durable and authentic. | | |
